What they were referring to is trauma or microtrauma.Damage occurs in a micro level causing tears in connectors or bruising(broken blood vessels). The pressure drom the inflamation or swelling causes pressure on the nerves causing discomfort.Unfortunately the only way for them to know the full extent of the damage would be to do an MRI or CT Scan because these trauma do not show up on an X-ray.Unless he's in alot of pain,I wouldn't pursue that.Just ice it for 20 minutes, heat for 20 minutes then an hour of nothing, repeat several times.Advil or Aleve are anti inflammatories and should help aleviate some swelling and pain.

I was hit by a car whilst cycling recently, luckily nothing was broken but the ambulance driver said that I have damaged tissue which is internal bruising. It's nearly two weeks and it still hurts, I recommend alot of rest and possibly a massage.

The muscle in his hand is torn or bruised. Imagine this like a cut on the inside of the body. It will be OK in a week or so but it would be a good idea if he didn't strain the damaged area for a bit.

Think car wreck and dented fenders at time referred to as damage to the car. Car can still be driven and used, just damaged and given time the car is repaired at a body shop. Now think bruising of muscles and tendons in your son's hand. Given time the body will heal itself. Thus the term damaged tissue.

I think even a bruise is damaged tissue. So it' probably something like a severe bruise that will heal quickly.

Tissue means flesh, it also means that no bones were broken.
Depending on how bad the injury was will depend on how quickly he recovers, normally no more than 2 or three weeks
