Where I live, a basic manicure costs about $20. I always tip but I so wish I didn't have to. How bad is it if you don't give a tip? Can you get away with this?

The hard part is, once you've gotten something done and tipped the person who did it - it's hard not to tip them everytime. You know they're going to wonder what happened when you suddenly stop!!

Twenty dollars is a lot for a manicure. My tip would be saying thank you and have a Blessed day. Blessings

Why would you risk not tipping in a situation where something bad could happen like s/he "forgets" to rinse the implements in germ killing solution before doing your nails. Just view the cost of a basic manicure as $23 and get over it. If you can't afford $23 then do your own nails. I never understand being nasty to waiters who can spit in your drink, either.

I agree with you to a certian point. I hate tipping those who I feel really didn't deserve it. Let me point out that I myself worked as a server for 3 years. I hated not getting tipped. But here is the real situation to consider. Servers (in my area) make $2.15 an hour, there income is dependant on tips. I think that any one who "works" for tips should be tipped. But when services are rendered at a nail salon, I don't think that we should feel obligated to tip unless they went out of thier way to do a good job.

The tip jar is used way too often in this country. As far as I'm concerned, the only ones who deserve a tip are the wait staff at restaraunts. Other wise, I'm not tipping at Starbucks for their overpriced coffee, I'm not tipping at the pizza parlor for a pick up order, I'm not tipping for a haircut.

I only tip depending on the parlor I go to... Most people go to the Chineese/Korean parlor and I wouldn't tip them b/c it is usually their own business and they do not hire outside people to work... I would how ever tip a privately owned parlor that takes apointments and hire people off the street based on their credentials...

It's really bad. Like, never go back there again if you don't tip. It would be insanely lame and cheap of you. Just do your own nails and don't waste the manicurist's time.

No one MAKES you tip. I only ever tip if the service was good or above average. I don't tip if they don't deserve it, that's pointless.

people in tipping jobs get paid very little - they basically work for their tips - please don't NOT tip - you may think it's not appreciated, but it pays our rent!
i am always grateful no matter what amount it is - it's the gesture!
