What is it like to live in an isolated community? Is it necessary to be a ship/boat-minded person to enjoy life on the island? Do land-lubbers adjust as well as sailors? Do you have children? Do they attend school on the island? Does family visit? Is your home self-sufficient? Electricity? Medical care? Internet? Community activities? What is your relationship with your neighbors like? How do you make a living?

I'm curious as anything and want to know all that I can learn about island life. If you live on an island and can find the time, please share all that you can. Thanks so much.

I'm from the UK, which is an Island, but a big one , now I live in Malta, it is a small Island, 17 miles by 9, but it doesn't feel that small. It has a sister Island which is smaller, It is a very safe place to live, you can go out at night on your own and feel safe. There aren't many murders here. It's very warm. But I do get frustrated because you can't travel too far and we have been everywhere on the island. I go home as often as possible, Malta being in the centre of the med, makes it easy to reach so many countries, we also have many sea links to Italy and Scicily. But Air travel is a necessity, we find everything we need, but things are more expensive because everything is imported. We are sufficient in everything, medical care, my kids attend school here. The main income for this island is tourism.
