Women tend to better at dealing with emotions and empathic interactions, which may explain why they're drawn to the fields of psychology that deal with those things. Not all fields of psych are like that though, and not all are female dominated.
There's also the fact that most students are female, even without thinking about specific subjects.
As for being half cracked, that's just your opinion. It's not been my experience.

For working in that are, you need to be patient and willing to hear. Also there is an emotional side to it. Women are more neutral in reading a person.
Another problem is the money. Not all psychologists get good money. For a man to run the house, he needs a good salary. Psychology is gaining ground in HR community now-a-days.
In India, Eduquity has 14 psychologists ( with three Ph.Ds) who develop psychometric tests for corporates and for educational institutions.
I do not agree to the 'crack' part. Tell me an area, where you do not find 'cracks'.
Regards
Ramesh

During my college years, I worked for one semester in the office of the psychology department. My work consisted of getting tests ready for the professors to administer to their students. It was the creepiest place I have ever worked. Once I examined the dynamics of what was happening in their lives, I came to the conclusion that since psychological "therapy" is a very long drawn out and expensive process, it was a person's half-crazy way of "fixing" themselves without having to commit to years of getting a crumb or two every week from a professional. Why not become one instead, was their thought, I guess. I don't think it worked very well...

Not all, but certainly more psychology students are women, but then there is a higher percentage of medical students who are women now too. Could it be that women are just a bit more interested in that kind of stuff?

I've noticed that too. I noticed that most psychology majors are probably trying to find out what is wrong with themselves. I met a practicing shrink who is bi-polar. How is that right?!?
