I think it's pretty universal for doctors to tell mothers to wait six weeks until resuming any sort of intercourse. My husband I were sexually active at about 2 weeks post partum. We made love about 3 weeks after... I felt fine and we needed to be that close again.

As for resuming a "normal sex life"? It took about a month for us to really get back in the saddle.

The DRs have always said 6 weeks, you are suppose to wait till after your post-partem appt, till you feel ready and be sure to use BC. I personally was never able to get past 4 weeks, lol, I have no will power, lol.

On a side note, after my first child I asked the DR the same thing, and she told me if I was nervous or worried to take a "solo flight" and see if my body was ready that way he didn't get all caught up in the moment and then let down and then I wouldn't all nervous and get tense and it hurt.

The dr. will give you the ok or not at your 6 week check up. I still had a stitch that had not fallen out at 6 weeks and did not bother to go to the dr. till 8 weeks and got the OK. That was still the farthest thing from my mind at that point, but I had quite a good tear.

Wait at least until the bleeding has stopped generally the rule is 6 weeks but many women are ready sooner. If you do have any pain or bleeding, stop and wait another week etc. Just listen to your body is the best advice you can follow. :o)

Most doctor's say wait until your six week appointment, but some of my friends have had sex before then. I personally waited 8 weeks after my son because I had alot of stitches with him.
