Yes, I think anyone familiar with the Craft would know who he is.
May his name resonate and his soul find peace.

Stewart Farrar (June 28, 1916 - February 7, 2000) was an English author of books on Alexandrian Wicca. Along with his wife, Janet Farrar, he was an influential Neopagan author and teacher. According to George Knowles, "some seventy five percent of Wiccans both in the Republic and North of Ireland can trace their roots back to the Farrar's [sic]"[1]. A journalist, scriptwriter, and World War II veteran, Farrar also published a number of works of fiction, including detective novels, many of which dealt with the occult and witchcraft.

Of course I know who Stewart Farrar is. Anyone in the Pagan community who doesn't must be mighty young. Deceased husband of Janet. A wonderful man who sounded like Peter O'Toole's grandfather when he spoke. And a mighty witch was he, and an excellent writer too.

I had the great privilege of meeting Stewart, Janet, and Gavin Bone in Iowa City in 1996. They were on a book tour and the Iowa Pagan Federation (I believe that's what they were called) invited them to speak at UI. A wonderful experience.

Write that book. I'll buy the first copy.

I think that his wife Janet (and Gavin) in all likelyhood already have "dibs" on writing Stewart's biography...

You could try writing it, without their consent but I suspect that, even if they did not litigate - your MS would be quite unpopular with publishers if the estate and his widow did not first give their blessing. Folk who -do- know who Stewart is; are the sort to be pretty loyal, especially to those they care about.
