Likely, at night you are indoors and much of the plane's sound energy reflects off the roof. Very little sound enters the building for you to hear. Background noise within the building can more easily mask the remaining plane's sound if you are talking or listening to TV or radio, etc. You must stop and listen even more carefully for any distant plane.

there are situations even as thermal layers variety at a number of altitudes. those will be better reported in the course of the evening hours, even as the floor continues to be warmth, although the air at altitude is cooling rapidly. those thermal layers can impact the transmission of sound waves, making an airplane look quieter because it passes overhead, fairly no matter if it truly is at a extreme altitude.

WRONG ASSUMPTION. ACTUALLY WE ARE SLEEPING AND EVEN OTHERWISE OUR BRAIN PROGRAMMES, TO THAT STATE. AEROPLANES, LANDING & TAKE-OFFS, AT NIGHT, IN YOUR AREA MAY BE LESS. ANY REASON MAY BE TRUE FOR YOU.
