Oh I'm all to aware!!
My daughter has no problems with any insect or animal but put the "Dreaded Daddy Long-legs" within eye range and the whole world knows about it Lol.
She has a serious phobia of them and in this past week alone the house has been filled with high pitched screams and sounds of running footsteps.
She can pick them out at 50 paces and can even tell if there is one in her room with the lights out- Twice I've been woken up now in the dead of night because of them "buzzing" about.
Its an absolute nightmare, give me the Boogie man anytime!!!

The increase in daddy long legs is because of the mild and wet September we have had. Their larvae known as leather backs live in the soil until the end of summer when the develop into the full beast. The very dry July did little to kill off the larvae and was offset by the mild wet conditions since then. The spider population is also benefiting from the same climate conditions and the spiders will eat the daddy long legs-es. Its not all bad though as it gives migrating birds plenty of food. I imagine that as the climate continues to warm these creatures will thrive. Time to bring back DDT I think.

See, the funny thing with this site is we don't know what country anybody is talking about.I have seen a lot more daddy long legs, but actually years and years ago there were more Tarantulas which are REALLY scary and I once saw a moth like the two hands of a man in size. No I am not dreaming!

There are billions of them this year I am sure of it, I think its because we have had a mild winter and a very hot summer, our dog is having a field day with daddy long legs, we have had 2 spiders living under a really tiny gap in our hearth since the end of April this year, we've even named them as Charlie and Pearl, they come out at least once a day for a walk across our wooden floor then go scuttling back again,I won't kill spiders because its bad luck, just hope they don't produce a massive family while there hiding under our hearth we could be attacked by them in our own lounge.

Yes. I noticed when there were about 3 daddy long legs whizzing around the kitchen, one dead in the sink and one squished under a magazine. The spiders seem to like these clumsy fliers.

mosquitos especially...never used to see them when i was younger. Daddy longlegs are so irritating. It has to be global warming because insect life is more favourable!

Yes, i've been plauged by them. Also, have you noticed the lack of wasps this summer? And hardly any dead bugs squashed on the windscreen? Maybe the spiders have eaten them all
