This year I would like to have decorations up from December 3rd until January 7th, because that is the duration of the Christmas season in the Catholic liturgical year -- including Advent, the feast days, and the post-Christmas "Christmas week."

We make a big family deal out of decorating the house (or at least starting) on Thanksgiving day after dinner. With 2 trees and tons of stuff, we spend 3 or 4 days getting it all up. That way the kids get to help while they are out of school.

I think most people put there's up from December 1st these days, my mom would never allow us to have decorations up in our house until December 24th, she said it was bad luck to put them up before that date and they always had to come down before midnight on January 5th as that was bad luck for the rest of the year if you didn't get them down on that date, I know everyone says that January 6th is the twelveth day of Christmas but because of some old Italian superstition my mom counted Christmas day as the first day of christmas and not boxing day as most other people do.

When I can be bothered to get them out of the cupboard, which is the week before Christmas, or a few days before sometimes. I have been totally put off by the whole thing as it starts far too early.

The end of the first week in December and it comes down right around New Years. No sooner than December 5 no later than January 3.
Check the stores near you. . . . IT'S CHRISTMAS already!

I like to put mine up on December 1 but, I have been known to drive people nuts by putting Christmas music on, on the hottest day of the summer.

2nd week of Dec & they come down immediately after Jan 6th. I hate the fact that the stores are starting Christmas earlier every year. I try to ignore it until Dec. Any earlier takes away the anticipation. In spite of 'political corectness' my tree will be a 'Christmas tree' not a 'unity' or 'friendship' tree. The people around me who aren't Christians will just have to accept that for me Christmas is about Christ, just as I respect their religious festivals & beliefs.
