I have a leather handbag that I haven't used for a while and it has been in a musty cupboard. Now I want to use it I cant get rid of the smell and its so unpleasant that I cant bear it. Besides throwing the bag away what can I do to get rod of the smell, it is quite a stiff leather, black and tan.

Cleon the inside with soapy water but clean the out side with a leather wax as where it has sat about doing no think the leather will be dry think of the leather as Ur skin that's how you need to look after it

put it in a bag with cedar chips for a few days. This will get the smell out of the cloth, and smells better then mothballs. Take a cloth and wipe baby oil on the leather. This will re-condition the leather, and add another pleasant smell.
