It takes human beings instinctive need to take or possess stuff and just gives it a target. That's all. For adults it seems more guided towards convincing us how much to value certain things or how to value ourselves. That's more scary.

One a side note, my one year old boy stops everything every single time commercials come on television. Not even Tele-Tubbies interest him that way.

Advertising, which is specifically aimed at children in the pre-school age group, under 5s, has a very serious brainwashing effect upon them. It is for this reason that we are moving to ban or have already banned, certain kinds of advertising on TV which is specifically aimed at the pre-school age group of children. For example, were MacDonald's simply allowed to advertise during what we used to call 'children's hour' on TV, then many of the children watching would want and begin to demand MacDonald's products, big macs etc. The same applies to any product advertised on TV during 'children's hour'.

They say that little children have trouble telling fact from fiction on the TV. I don't know. I can't remember a time when I didn't know that everything on the TV, except for the news, was "stories". Now I know that everything on the TV especially the news is "stories" and I don't watch much at all.
Seriously I would get a TIVO, one of those things that can edit out the ads as you watch. that won't mean they never see an ad. but it will cut down on them. And help your kids "deconstruct" the ads. Say things like "remember when we bought the cereal with the flying fairy in it? And it didn't fly like on the TV? Do you think this is going to be any better? Can't we make just as good a flying moose at home?"
I realize this is more labor intensive that just plopping them in front of the TV and doing what you want to do but I think it will lead to less whining in the cereal aisles.

A study revealed..... Even before children learn how to count or say the alphabet (1-2yrs) the majority recognise large corporate companies like McDonald's & Coke!

Now, I know some parents take there kids to McDonald's regularly but advertisements on TV or bilboards encourages kids to make eating there a part of everyday life. They make out as though it healthy...!

THIS IS WHY WE HAVE AN OBESITY PROBLEM!
.

If they are over weight as children, the chances are they will be over weigth as adults!

This question should be how does advertising affect us all? We are told in adverts (subconsciously) that if we buy this type of car our lives will be fantastic, That if we use this type of perfume/aftershave the opposite sex will find us more attractive. If we buy these type of running shoes we will be fitter and be able to run faster. I have noticed that they use a lot of "sporty" type people to advertise junk food i.e walkers crisps and mac Donald's. The top and bottom of it is they will tell us ANY bullsh+t to get us to part with our hard earned money.

Advertisor's main target are children. This is why they use cool jingles, great graphics and beautiful models or favorite stars. Nowadays kids are the number 1 buyers, look at the merchandise computers, mp3 & mp4 players, playstations, cornflakes, shoes, clothes, toys, cell phones.... Our kids have it all. So basically they r affected by advertising because they r the target, ads are made to attract kids.

Turns them into greedy, grasping little gits with no appreciation of how hard their parents have to work to buy them the next new fad dreamed up by the advertising executives. Not the kids' fault.
Put it down to modern society.

I would say greatly..we are approaching Xmas again when the Television is full of adverts aimed directly at kids..the fast food industry targets children's programmes too..advertisers wouldn't spend such vast sums of money to do these adverts if they didn't work.

The children are easily tempted by the advertisement and they simply demand their parents to get those things which they have seen in tv.....and they want it at any cost.....
