My dad is a jeweller and he does that sort thing all the time. He says that people frequently come in with jewellery that they want valued for insurance purposes
I implore you to go to a jeweller rather than a pawn shop, though you can get jewellers (like my dad) who also double as pawnbrokers. The latter would be just as good as the former.
A jeweller will, on the whole, have a much more detailed understanding of the jewellery trade. They will be able to give you a far more accurate answer. I am not attacking pawnbrokers, I am just saying that that they won't know jewells as well as jewellers.
Don't worry about expense. Most jewellers do it for peanuts.
GOOD LUCK

Take it to a reputable jewellers for a valuation. They will charge you for this service. Take photos of the ring and keep it with the valuation in case you need to make an insurance claim at some point in the future.

go to a good jewellers and they will give you a valuation on it. pawn shops give you just the value they will give you. if you go to a good jewellers they will charge you for the service but in return you will be given a valuation sheet with the proper valuation for insurance purposes. hope this helps take care.

You can go to a pawn shop, and ask them the price, and then decide you don't want to sell. Be sure to ask what they would offer to sell it outright as well as to pawn.
Or you could decide, based on the price, that you do want to sell. Just don't count on ever seeing that same guy again, because when he hears you pawned it, he will assume you were only in it for the money, and have no further interest in you.
Even worse if he DOES want to see you again, if you know what I mean.
Think three times.

Worth, you should not count it by money but should value it by great sentiment your boyfriend has for you. You should not be worldly but heartly.
