I usually resolve them quickly, if I have a decent answer after 4 hours. If I am however tied down to a bed in Manchester being fed the neighbourhood kids, I might have some difficulty.

Depends on the question and folks' reaction to the question.

When I ask a question for simple information, I close it when I get the information I'm seeking.

When I'm asking a fun question like "What is the color of the sky in your fantasy world?" I let it go for a few weeks. Love to see the great answers and try to attract as many as possible.

But when I'm asking a serious "What is your opinion" question, it really depends on ppl's reactions. I don't want to start a fight. When I ask a Q. it is a sinceree search for sincer opinions, but some folks seem really angry and hurt that I don't know what their thinking.
If it looks like the majority is taking the Q as an attack rather than a true search for information, then a figure I probably worded it wrong and end it pretty quickly until I can figure out how to reword it.
If it's just the minority that throws a fuss, then I let it go until it feels like I have a good, rounded collection of opinions.

Maybe I'm a push over.
But, hey...

Simple questions can be resolved very quickly. Leaving the public waiting a) does not improve on "the initial" burst of answers b) probably a personaility defect or ignorance on the part of the asker i.e hoping for "better" answers. More difficult questions i.e. those that require research and not just opinions, need to take time to research and resolve.

usually after 4 hours, because I get a rush of answers, that satisfies me, I find out what I need then close it. Sometimes if it is a really in depth question i wait til it closes

Usually once I see there aren't too many answers coming in. About 6-7 hours I guess. I work nights, so I might wait until the next night to get to them. It keeps me awake during the boring hours at work.

Waiting. I have seen most of my questions still receiving answers up until the very end. I don't want people to feel left out if they find the question interesting. Call me old school.

I try and wait until i get a good answer but usually as soon as I can. If people aren't going to get in quick, then too bad.

Hello again. Some of us don't get online everyday, so it's good to be able to check out our stalkee's q's. And it's nice for them to get that late surprise answer, when they thought their question had stumbled off into the alley and was asleep next to the dumpster of history.
