Japan was also the first Asian country to host Winter Olympics in 1972 and then again in 1998

JAPAN was the first country in Asia to host both the Summer & Winter Olympic Games. Tokyo hosted the Summer Olympics Games in 1964 & eight years later the Winter Olympic Games was staged in Sapporo, in the island of Hokkaido, Japan.

the city of Tokyo, Japan was the first city in Asia to stage the Summer Olympics in 1964 & since then Seoul is the other Asian city to host the event in 1988. 2008 Summer Olympics will also be held in Asian city, Beijing, China PR.
meanwhile, Sapporo & Nagano of Japan have hosted the Winter Olympics in Asia in 1972 & 1998 respectively.
