Christmas planning in September is ridiculous! Putting merchandise out in the shops at the start of November would be soon enough!

Not everyone does their Christmas shopping in December. It's an expensive business and it makes good sense to start early. I work in retail, and Christmas is the busiest time for me - if I left it until Christmas time to start my shopping I'd have no chance. I don't think it's wrong, just catering to those people who want to be prepared.
Having said that, I've heard rumours that some shops are beginning to stock Easter eggs. Now that is taking things a bit far...

Tesco are not the only one Sainsburys were selling mince pies, and Christmas puds ages ago.
I think Christmas should start maybe late November or beginning of December...if we start it to early it takes away the magic of Christmas....at the end of August i saw an advert on TV saying its Christmas so spruce up your house!!!
We still have Halloween and firework night to go...so people look forward to that and stop wishing the year away...life goes fast enough as it is!

Its not just tesco , its all the supermarkets , its their most lucrative time of the year probably , and alot of people do start to pick items up early as they go along to even out the expense , i know i have too .. Although i agree seeing selection boxes and advent calenders makes me sigh ...
Im not a party pooper , i love christmas ....

I agree, it's very wrong, it's horrible walking in there and seeing all the Christmas chocolates and shiny red and green stuff, makes me shudder. I went to Trago Mills a few weeks ago and they were already stocking that rubbish! I believe the first to do it were Harrods though, somebody told me they saw Xmas stuff there at the end of August!

its a commercial organisation
if we as customers didnt buy the Christmas goods then they as a shop wouldnt sell them.
so perhaps your question should be rephrased "What is wrong with us"
granted some of the shops will put goods in early, and will probably make more sales as customers see something shiny - but again whoose fault is that the shop for displaying it or the customer buying it.

Unfortunately the retail business is one of the fastest moving businesses in the uk. If you think, they're bad just now, wait till you go in to Tesco on the 2nd of January for your hangover cure and are greeted by a thousand easter eggs!!! Is it right, probobly not, but lIke I said, it's so fast moving it aint no surprise.

As I get older I like the build up to and the day more and more.
Although Matalan by me had x-mas stuff on the shelves almost 2 months ago.
Now that's crazy. I agree with you, it is coming too early all the time.

I like it, and I would like to do my Christmas shopping before the mad rush as I hate crowds. I am also very pleased to see that we are still allowed to celebrate Christmas and wonder for how much longer that will be the case.
