I'm taking a very strong medication which seems to be keeping me awake at night. As a result I've turned night into day and day into night. I have a sleep-related illness anyway and am used to working at night, but only when I want. This is hard to take because now I can't even get to sleep in the daytime. My sleep has always been bad; now it's worse. Besides that, the medicine makes me see double at times and it causes vertigo so that I almost fall over at unexpected moments. But I have to stay on the medication until these side effects subside and it can do what its suposed to do at the dosage the docotor wants. I have a sleeping pill but its not too effective and I don't like to take them. Any ideas? Anything that you can suggest that will level off my sleep deprivation and give me time in the day to do projects and work that can only be done then. Most nights I'm too tired to do the work I could do then. Appreciate your suggestions.

If your body is physically exhausted you will go to sleep - just do a lot of exercise (be careful because of your vertigo) and you will be tired enough to sleep for a few hours.

First and most important, have you spoke with your Doctor about these side effects? Double vision and dizziness are not side effects that most physicians would expect a patient to tolerate....especially since they could be dangerous depending on the situation....(driving) I'm not a big work out guru.....but it does help to relax your mind and help you rest......breathing excercises work as well......I give you huge kudos for not wanting to always take the sleeping pills you were given.....they can be so addictive......but if you really can't sleep and it's causing you problems......taking one every now and again just to obtain rest will not hurt you......so long as prescribed for you.......I find reading in bed helps me to fall asleep.......I'm not a Doctor....just a nursing student......but I would recommend talking with your Doctor you should not have to suffer needlessly because of a medication dose......it could be too high for you at this point. Much luck and hope sweet dreams to you soon.
