thinking i was doing the right thing. i put outdoor caulk on my windows (where the wood and glass meet). the caulk is an outdoor caulk and safe for wood. can i leave it on there or should i remove the caulk and put on a glaze instead that i just heard about?

Leave the caulk there. It isn't made for the job like glazing but it will work.

the reason it's going to be a problem not using the glazing compound, is when it gets old and needs to be replaced, it will be twice the job removing it than the glazing would have been. It does do the job ok so I suppose I would just leave it for now.

leave it until it starts to come off on its own, check it on a weekly basis at first- if its doing well, leave it. i have bathtub caulk on my skylight. it was leaking but not very much and the stuff they sell for skylights was over $22 and i didn't have the money at the time, i had a tube of bathtub caulk and i used it on the skylight and its worked ever since, i've not had to replace it and the skylight hasn't leaked since. plus it was something i had and didn't have to go buy.

egads...leave the caulk on it...especially if it was silicone based, which will last longer than anything else anyways!

Use GLAZING COMPOUND installed properly, with a putty knife. Let someone who knows how to do it, show you.
