There are a lot of good hotels in Manila. Prices ranges from $20 to $300.00 or even more, it depends on the star rating of the hotel. Please note also the hotels in the Philippines charges service charges + local tax + VAT (value added tax ) = 20.75%, which is added to your room rate.

If money is not an issue to you, I would recommend Shangrila Makati, Manila Peninsula, Hyatt, Discovery Suites or Pan Pacific Manila. The most expensive I think would be Shangrila Makati however they are one the best hotels in Manila.

Shangrila Makati and Manila Peninsula are located in Makati. Hyatt and Pan Pacific are located in Malate. Discovery Suites is located in Ortigas.

Makati area is sort of the business area of Manila where corporate/head offices of companies are located. A lot of shopping malls, bars, bistros, restaurants and entertaiment around the area.

Malate used to be the "Red Light Area" of Manila a lot of bars, some shopping malls and few of the embassies and other government office are nearby located.

Ortigas center is the new business area of Manila. One of the Philippines largest mall is that area, some bars.

If you are on a budget, search the net and you will find some good cheap hotels in Manila. Another option would be to rent a condominium.

Hope this helps!

You will need to check the various websites for hotel locations, but I would mke the following suggestion:-

Always call the hotel direct to check prices and make a reservation.

I visited Davao (in the south of the Philippines) earlier this year, and the prices posted online were around £50 - 70 per night (about 90 - 130 US$)

On the advice of a friend there, I contacted the hotel direct, and negotiated the rate in Peso (local currency) and I paid around £22 (US$ 39) per night. You will still be able to pay by credit card.

It seems that they always jack up the prices for foreigners - who can blame them for trying?

You do not say where you are from, but be aware that it may not be easy to find banks who will offer UK£ exchange. It was impossible in Davao.

I hope this helps - enjoy your trip!
