Mariska Magdolina Hargitay, born January 23, 1964 is a Golden Globe and Emmy Award winning American actress best known for her role as Detective Olivia Benson on "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." She won this year's Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in this TV crime series. Mariska is the fourth child of Jayne Mansfield to her divorced husband Hungarian-born former Mr. Universe Mickey Hargitay.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (also known as Law & Order: SVU, or simply SVU) is a drama about the Special Victims Unit in the fictitious 16th Precinct of New York currently airing on NBC syndicated on the USA Network. It is currently the highest rated series of the Law & Order franchise, and is one of NBC's top rated shows.
