it's not so simple but it's cheap. you should search for items listed below to get started, and read the product manuals. hardware will cost as less as $200US, plus broadband fees and some software.

easiest option is to get a real powerful antenna for your wireless G router and place in the center of coverage area -and connect that to the broadband connection. your clients should be able to connect at 250 meters radius. this method will not work good in rain, irregular terrain, or if there are many large buildings/trees around.

another way is to get (good for many clients):

- wi-fi access point hardware (repeaters)
- a router, hardware or software (like cisco, linksys, d-link, belkin, or wingate/winroute for windows [you can run a pc as a router])
- a broadband connection

then you do this:
- configure and place the repeaters in a triangular setup across the 500 meter area (3 should do it)
- connect one repeater to the router or computer running router software
- connect the router/pc to broadband connection modem (dsl, cable, T1, etc.)

router provides access to multiple clients across a single connection - in this case broadband.
repeaters distribute the signal accross your coverage area, your clients connect to the repeaters, which then gets authentication through the router, then they get on the internet via broadband.

the only thing you'll need to maintain (administer) is the authentication/access rights on the router so that only authorized users can connect to your network.
