The main cause for political indifference in the youth of today is-lack of knowledge, lack of interest, fast growing city life, lure for easy money, lack of ideal political leaders, the political set up in the country which is so corrupt and inefficient, that theyouth generally prefers to stay away. There is a need that the youth faces the situation squarely and gets involved in the political activities and the least he can do is this that HE GOES TO CASTE HIS VOTE!!!

This seems to be the kind of question which should ideally have different answers in different countries. But the general sense about Politics and Politicians is quite similar everywhere in the world.
Political parties seem to be more concerned with winning Elections by appeasing and alluring Voters . They target those sections more which they think would bring them more votes . And once they are successful , they pursue their Selfish Interests to the core. Some of the Leaders do work towards betterment of society and Development but most are greedy and corrupt. And this is true not only in Asia , but also in USA , UK ,Africa and even Europe , with Zimbabwe probably one of the worst .
Moreover the youth feel that Politicians are not doing enough for their betterment - Increasing Job Opportunities, Infrastructure etc . These are the factors that dissuade the youths from participating in Political Arena and showing indifference .
Reforms in the Political Process and a focussed efforts from the Few Interested youths "themselves" can help in reducing this political Indifference . The Society too has a major role to play in this . Moreover , Education in Schools and Colleges should focus more on imbibing more interest in Politics among the young ones. And probably a classification and "recognition" of Politics as a "Career" like Medicine,Engineering,Information technology,
Accountancy etc would also help .

RE:
What's the main cause of political indifference amongst the youth today?
Corruption, i know falls under the main category but my main question is what can be done (possibilities) to get the youth more involved and empathetic?

I'll tell you exactly why. The youth do not see much difference between the parties and to an extent that is true, they both spend our money like a drunk in a ***** house. The majority are extremely patriotic and enlist at increasing rates. They are tired of political correctness, tired of being told they have some responsibility for black's "plight" and tired of schools that teach mush.

They care very little about societal development. More self-centred. They cannot look up to any political leader to emulate. Attitude of nothing can change the present situation. Hence the political indifference.
The way to go about involving them in active politics would be for various political parties to nominate as many young people as possible during elections. Once elected give them enough challenges assignments. Empower them to deliver results. This would need a totally different mind set of our political parties.

Well, Sunshine, you made a good start. Problem is, most of your peers can't read and/or comprehend, therefore they do not understand or care. You answered your own question pretty well too, it is corruption, add truth, greed and power and you have politicians summed up pretty well. How to get them (the youth) more involved you asked, no easy answer there, switch off the ipod may be a start.

The political system will have to be cleaned of corruption and Goondaism to make it attractive to the youth. The politicians will have to be sensitised towards the youth, so that apathy of youth towards the politicians is removed. They should also try to bring professionalism in to politics and make it a fair paying job with the systems in place so that youth is attracted towards it. Unless and until the youth is attracted and gets involved with political system, they will not be able to remove their indifference. Basically clean the system and make it responsive
