The first Monaco Grand Pix took place in 1929. The Formula One Championship was not in existence, yet. That inaugural race was won by the British driver William Grover-Williams, also called Williams, driving the famous green Bugatti T35B.

The first official Formula One Monaco Grand Prix instead took place in 1950 (first F1 season), and it was won by the Argentinean driver Juan Manuel Fangio driving a red Alfa Romeo. That was coincidentally Fangio's first win in Formula One. One of many, as history later told us.

The Monaco Grand Prix predates the organised World Championships; the Principality's first Grand Prix race was organised in 1929 by Antony Noghes, under the auspices of Prince Louis II through the "Automobile Club de Monaco" (A.C.M.). That first race was won by William Grover-Williams (a.k.a. "Williams") driving a Bugatti.
