I was thinking of doing a weekend away in Bergen, Norway around October 20th.

I have checked the sunrise/sunset times and they seem ok (sunset around 5pm before the clocks go back), but then i saw an 'average weather conditions' chart saying that there are only 2 hours of daylight in october there.

Can someone clarify what its like?

Well I was in a town north of Bergen in November last year and there was still light. At least 7 hours of it I would say. I am originally from Northern Canada so I get the light stuff and I didn't think it was much different then Canada.

you are on the cusp of seasons. every day the sun 'up' time decreases by 8 minutes in Bergen. The weather is also often rainy. This does not stop the city from opening and it being a great place to visit. This summer and fsll has been very mild and autum has yet to really take hold. This could change in the next 20 days but its not goiong to start snowing nor is it pitch black. The effect is that the sun rises a little later than your used to and sets a little earlier but there is a much longer 'dawn and dusk' so its not like night.
