My friends said it should only be used for shorter distances. What do you think?

1000 miles is 1000 miles whether it's in a convertible or a Mack truck. Let the top down and have some fun darlin!!!

I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The noise level will be a bit higher and that can be fatiguing, but make rest stops and you'll be fine.

Some convertibles might be harder to heat or cool with the top up than a hardtop or normal sedan, but you should still be able to be comfortable.

A thousand miles is not that far. I commute that far every two weeks.

My vehicle is a soft top Isuzu Amigo.

hey you bought the soft top, USE it!!
they are such fun and a road trip of that distance in a fun car is just that, FUN!!!
if you start your trip thinking it will be anything else, go by train or bus, you don't know and will never know what your missing.
Hope the exhausts have a great tone and that the weather holds good for you,
wish i was there, ah the open road.
;) H

You will get better gas mileage and be safer in a hard-top car. I just made a 1400 mile trip, and it would have been hell in a convertible. (Noisy, too.)

Sounds like hell to me. I made a 60 mile trip in one once and felt whipped and windburned. Noisy and uneconomical (gas). Make another choice!

If you plan on taking the highway and leaving the top down, YES!
