did you just get a new battery and alternator? Check battery cables- leads and plug wires, if they didn't get put back on tight they will jiggle loose and keep your jeep from starting. if everything is good then I would check starter and plugs and plug wires. I have had problems like this before and it was a short in a fuse though, a small light and radio on all night..kept running the battery down over night

If the battery is good, as in running the headlights and heater blower motor on high, and your battery connections are clean and tight, then you should have a clicking sound when you try to start it.

When you turn the key, the solenoid shoots forward and large contacts connect the battery to the starter motor. The contacts get burned from arcing and can't pass the current needed by the starter. Sometimes adding another battery will cause it to work.

Most cars today have starters with internal solenoids, but some have them externally. Follow the large red cable from the battery. It will either go to the starter or a large relay with two large terminals on it. The other large wire would go to the starter.

If it is external, you can jump the two big terminals with the ign switch in the run position. If it cranks, then that solenoid is bad.

If it's in the starter, a starter repair shop can easily replace the contacts for far less than a new starter.

in case you think the sunshine in the glovebox is on all of the time... take the bulb out and attempt back. There ought to be a battery or alternator indicator easy on the sprint... if the sunshine comes on; you have a charging circuit fault...if there is not then there's a gauge that exhibits charging... a automobile ought to can charge at 14+ volts to maintain 12 volt service... If the indicators from a gauge (or the absence of a easy) states there is not any alternator concern, you are able to desire to seem someplace else. each so often a gas pump loss of life will react in a similar way.

A lady friend of mine who owned an older Cherokee had a similar problem! LOL!!I I suggested changing the battery cables and she insisted the problem was not that. She took the car to a mechanic and paid almost $600 bucks and the problem came back in just a few days. We argued and she "allowed" me to change the cables and she's been driving for over 2 years without a hitch. Sometimes I get invited over for dinner. LOL!!

Enough gas in the tank?

Is it in neutral or park?

Are the connections solid?

What about the starter? It good?

Do you have AAA or another emergency service? If you call them quick, you might get the vehicle towed to a garage near work, AND get a ride.

I live in a humid area and this happened to my car every morning. I bought a can of moisture remover and sprayed it on the plug wires and distributor. started right up every time until the next morning. In hindsight it would have been better to replace the plug wires.

have you checked your voltage regulator? does it click when you turn it on? anyways if it crank, and you need to shut it off and turn it back on,i suggest you check your ignition, it could be simple or your fuel pump is giving out , depends on the year of the cherokee, it might be your starter but then again your alternator could be faulty, or if u connected it , are the connections correct and secure?

Hey we need to know what it is doing that is not starting...is it clicking? Is it just not turning over? It could be your starter, if the bendix is bad, or the cylenoid (I know I spelled that wrong) it won't even try to turn over.

first !try this ,put jeep in neutral see if it starts(neutral safety switch)remember too, most of your things that pertain to starting are in gas tank(fuel pump, fuel filter, sending unit for gauge)if that is the problem these are all one unit, cost between 350.00 and 600.00
good luck i hope you get it fixed,it's a pain in the neck
