Rose was 17 on the Titanic, which sank in 1912, the movie is set in 1997, 85 years after the sinking.
Proof:
Louis - "Rose DeWitt Bukator died on the Titanic when she was 17, right?"
Brock - "That's right"
Louis - "So she'd be over a hundred by now?"
Brock - "101 next month"
Old Rose - "It's been 84 years, and I can still smell the fresh paint..."
Now I believe that the makeup artists did a great job at making Gloria Stuart look 100 years old. Besides, no movie is perfect, however people thought it was a movie made well enough to be awarded 11 Academy Awards, which only 2 other films have reached' Ben Hur, and LotR 3. I've seen Titanic more than 20 times, I can recite all 3 hours of it, and I've picked up many "bloopers", but as I said before, no film's perfect. I'm sorry you have to be so negative

Do u think the ship was realistic, the sinking was realistic. It was all expertise of the director who grasped ur mind to accept the events as they were shown. The lady was plus 100, i have many ladies around in our family and social groups we easily estimate the age of old citizens. Ur observation can not be accepted, those who see that movie accept in their mind that she was a lady of an age 100++. There are some more points u can choose to criticize but not this one, please the movie one more times as if u are not seeking entertainment but raising objections for sake of objection.

Evidently, nobody even cared: the film raked in Oscars and grossed the $$$$ that not only paid for the production costs, but raked in hefty profits for all involved, making James Cameron a Hollywood powerhouse.
