DO NOT read Morals and Dogma. It is not a textbook for Masonry and despite what people who haven't read it say, it is NOT considered to be authoritative for Masonry. The Preface to the book (written by the leadership of the Scottish Rite at the time) says exactly that: "This book is one man's opinion and we don't agree with everything in it"
Masonry is a fraternal organization for men that "makes good men better". It is one of the largest charitable organizations in the world, donating more than $1.5 million PER DAY to provide help and comfort to the needy and houses of healing to the sick. It is NOT a religion, nor is it a political organization. Both religion and politics have been FORBIDDEN to be discussed in Lodges for the entire history of the order. There are secret things, but they are all posted on the Internet. We keep our meetings private to emphasize the serious nature of our work and to ensure that only those men who seek admission can take part in our work.

the best way for you to know is to petition a lodge for membership.
There is nothing evil about the lodge.
a good book to read the moral and dogma will answer many questions from the old days, unfortunately today it has become not much more than a civic organization, not unlike the international order of odd-fellows,lions,Kiwanis,Jaycees,etc

It's sorta like a secret society, like the Illuminati, with a dark and sinister agenda. Some even connect it with satanism. investigate things, and measure the good and bad.

I have looked into it somewhat, and concluded that it is not a specific type of religion. It seems to base itself on having good morals. It emphisizes family, respect and love your parents.Follow the doctrines of your religion. And pledge alegiance to your flag.
It seems like it is a guide to fighting the forces of good and evil.

You'd be better off joining the Elks, or Rotary club.
