Everybody is different and some women don't notice this at all. It is possible to experience losing your mucus plug early on in pregnancy as it really doesn't mean anything in terms of starting labour etc. It is just a sign for some women but not all.

The plug is like clear mucus, tinged with pink or blood. You may get some light discharge before you lose it. If I remember right it was just a couple of hours from losing the plug, that I went into labor with both my kids.
Congratulations!

i went into labour first and didn't loose the plug until i was about 5cm dilated. i didn't see it cos i was on the loo at the time, and too full of hormones to bother. i heard it though... sounded really solid...made a real plop sound. so i don't think you will find it disolving, and if it breaks loose it is heavy enough to come straight out.
good luck!!!!! :)
