Are they that insecure? I thought the whole reason to go to college was to get away from parents--not be tethered to them by cell phone.

I am an instructor at a large state university, and I am surprised by the number of students I overhear talking to their parents.

I do not buy the argument about "I have a good relationship with my parents, so..."

I think it is closer to "I can't make a single decision or thought by myself without mommy and daddy doing it for me."

I think it is an extension of "I want to shelter my kids from everything" parenting style. They can't be at college with them, so they keep meddling in their kids' lives, when the students are adults now.

i'm going to guess that it has to do with money. if they don't call the parents, they can't ask for money. it's a whole lot easier (and faster)to call and ask instead of writing a letter.

I agree that a limited volume of scholars with weapons may well be a stable factor. I additionally agree that there could be very physically powerful standards utilized to who will could raise. do not maximum faculties have Psych. Departments? With the army offering such a great number of reward, many veterans are enrolling in college now. many colleges even have persons who're getting to understand to grow to be law enforcement officials. Have the Psych dept. visual exhibit unit those women and adult males human beings, provide them a real protection course and enable them to guard themselves. i bypass to training and there are a number of pupils i might not prefer to work out carrying a weapon, yet there are a number of that i think of could be responsible. scuffling with a coaching shooter till now than hand has wide-unfold not achievable, protection or the police can on no account situations get to the scene in time; If he had walked good right into a room with an armed knowledgeable student, the dying toll might have stopped at that room. To all people who say weapons do not provide up violence; New Jersey has now not basically the toughest anti-gun regulations interior the rustic, in addition they have 3 of the ten maximum risky cities interior the rustic. In that small of a state that would not look to tutor ok that unarmed citizens are safer.

Asking for money.

hee hee

Well, unlike myself and possibly yourself .. a lot of people have close ties to their parents and seek advice.

Thrust out and away from previous friends and family and having to do taxes and the weight of the world that is adulthood is now thrust upon you. Who do you turn to too be your guiding light? your life preserver? Friends and Family are usually first with religion not far behind.

EDIT: Also it just occurred to me. Depending on your age .. you may be a bit out-of-sync with the high-tech children (young adults) these days. Where before long distance calls were kept breif, now it is free to call home .. especially with the parents footing the cell phone bill. EVERYONE has a phone virtually glued to their now it seems, and in fact there are now cell phoen that are nothing more than an ear piece that people walk around with.

Come one people .. just becuase it rings does NOT mean you have to answer it.

The whole reason to go to college is to get educated. To get away from parents, kids run off to join the circus.

I find it hard to believe that you are really "an instructor at a large state university" if you have this attitude.

For being an instructor, you seem kind of dumb. Some kids actually have good relationships with their parents and their parents want to know how they are doing at school. Believe it or not, their parents problem miss them very much.
