It's 18 in my country too.
I don't know what to think about it... While maturity does depend partly on experience (=age), it also requires common sense, and many adults are far not as matured as teens are.
It is a fact, however, that for a still developing organism, such as the body of a 18-year old, alcohol is very harmful.

The legal age for the entire planet should be 30. Drinking, driving, voting, sex, all need to be restricted. Mandatory Military service from age 16 to 30. If you survive to age 30 you get to be a citizen and have the responsibilities of an adult.

I find it ironic that an 18 year old who people say is too immature to drink responsibly is said to be mature enough to die for his or her country.

It's 19 in Canada except Quebec it's 18. I think 19 is okay. 18 might be too young because 18 year olds are more likely to buy alcohol and cigarettes for their underaged friends. Some people turn 18 during high school right but, most people are out of high school by 19.

Here in America you can be 15 to drive, 18 to vote and buy cigarettes and 21 to drink. It sucks but that's life!

Hi. In India, its 18 for women and 21 for men. This is because, psychologically, men mature later than women. If there were no restrictions, then people would do what they want. Then how would you hold juveniles accountable for their actions?? Is it fair to treat kids and adults in the same light? Think of the consequences!

The legal drinking age in my state was 18 back in 1979.....when I was 18! In retrospect, I was much too young and immature to be bar-hopping!

i presumed it replace into terrible whilst i replace into in easy terms 18, yet now that i'm 27 i know that that's for the suitable. We do get our licenses at sixteen! Canada's eating age is eighteen so i'm effective numerous adolescents bypass up there and drink and gamble and in simple terms have a reliable time...i know my hubby use to bypass up there each and every of the time with a team of his buddies just to drink and hit the strip golf equipment in Windsor!

Nope, never met an 18 year old with enough commen sense to make good decisions. Especially the drinking. I would make an exception for any one in the Military. I agree that if you can fight for your country you can drink in it. College students shouldn't be allowed to touch alcohol till they graduate.

Its a damn shame because its 21 in my state as well ....BUT so far we've had about seven 17 - 19 year olds die in this damn war in Iraq. These boys are too young to have a f'ing drink BUT old enough to die a horrible death in a man made war....its just makes no sense to me.

at least you come rom a structured society.
in my country puberty is the legal age for anything, drinking, driving, sex, marriage. it seems govt never had time to put barriers until now, and the 18 yrs legal everything is hard to follow now as people can fake everything.
