Read "Electric Kool Aid Acid Test" by Tom Wolfe. Take a hit of acid, smoke some grass. Then read "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" by Hunter Thompson, and you should be up to speed. 1960s, yes.

The hippie style was born in California, with the rebels of the aristocratic system but being sons of the businessmen. These young people were studying in Berkley , also.
Part of the subtrends were: acid, flower power and surf.
