TONIGHT ME AND MY FRIEND WERE DISCUSSING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF TAMPONS. SHE TOLD ME THAT A TAMPON COULD GET LOST INSIDE OF A VAGINA. I WOULD LIKE TO GET FEED BACK FROM OTHER WOMEN ON THIS SUBJECT. COULD THIS REALLY HAPPEN?

Yes, i've heard of that happening before. My mom's friend used to do Pap Smears, and she said you'd be amazed at some of the stuff you find that's gotten stuck up there. If you do happen to get a tampon stuck up there, you should go get it taken it out immediately because it can cause all kinds of nasty infections.

Absolutely Possible!!

My cousin put a tampon in and had forgotten about it (yes, I knowwwww, sounds stupid but this is for real!) anyhow, she put another one in and pushed the first one way up inside of her...
After her period she kept feeling weired inside and couldn't figure out what the problem was.
After a week, she made an appointment with her OB, and sure enough, there is was!! Did no damage or caused no pain, but the string had broken off and this is why she did not realize she had this inside of her...

Gross huh?? Well, you asked and I just wanted to tell you what can happen if you're not careful!!

Depends on what you mean by "get lost".

If the string comes off of the tampon, you may have a hard time getting it out, but it doesn't go up through your cervix and into the abdomen.

There is an 'end' to the canal. The tampon might be compressed high in the vaginal canal and be hard to retrieve, but it doesn't 'go' anywhere else in the body.

The tampon can not go past your cervix, but can be pushed up futher than necessary in the vagina. Got drunk once had a little fin--ring and forgot. Had to have my husband dig it out. sorry for the brutal honesty. The vagina is not big enough for it to get lost, lost though.

A tampon cant get "lost", as there is nowhere for it to go to! It can only go so far up, as the cervix is only a very small hole, much too small for a tampon to go through. The only way out, is the same way as it went in!!! It can, however, get forgot at the end of a period, so remember to take it out when you finish. Tampons left in can cause TSS (toxic shock syndrome), which can lead to death.

Not possible. Your cervix (the small opening from your vagina to your womb) is very tiny, and it is impssible for even a sim tampon to go past the barrier. The Tampon usually stays where you put it (because as it absorbs it grows in size) but if in the unlikely case it did move upward, the furthest it could ge was you cervix, which is easy to reach with your finger if at the worst case scenario.

Your friend was very ill-informed to tell you that, because it simply isn't true.

Not lost, but stuck up inside where you have a hard time to fish it out. I have heard from a nurse I know that women have had to come in for the doc to retrieve a tampon.

yes but rarely. dont get drunk and forget to pull the one in out and insert another....i think this is the only time it can really happen as the tampon does have a little life string incase of emergencies! lol

Yes, it can. This is one reason why the "toxic shock " warning came out many years ago regarding tampons, as well as wearing them without changing them often.
