Next year get some NON poisonous spray that only repels bugs, it doesn't kill them but it won't kill you either. It has a citrus base, but it works and it is safe to eat the fruit. Be certain you watch how much water your pear tree gets. Too much or too little can cause the rotting. I water no more than twice a week at night so the water goes deep and the roots will follow the water down. Watering everyday keeps the roots too close to the surface and the tree is more likely to be blown over by wind.

Also, don't be reluctant to pick them still firm and bring them in to ripen. They rot internally to make good fertilizer for the seeds to germinate in when they fall to the ground.

My pear tree is about ten years old and this year produced about six dozen pears. Be certain to trim off the high branches when cold weather comes so that they spread out like an umbrella.

This year the deer and crows got quite a few when I didn't go down to the tree everyday but that is my little contribution to wildlife.

Hah my neighbor has horses that come to the fence when I mow and beg, I mean literally beg for fresh cut grass. When I offered them a pear they sniffed and drew back because they didn't recognize the smell. It was funny. Then when they finally got brave enough to take one they slurped and chomped on them and stood there with sad puppy eyes hoping for more. I swear, I have never seen horses show "sad puppy eyes" before, it was comical. should have had my camera there.

Hope that helps..........

Pears Ripen From The Inside Out....So I'd Assume They'd Rot From The Inside Out......Maybe You Should Pick'em Alittle Earlier....

pears are supposed to be picked green and ripened off the tree, unlike most other fruit. if you are waiting for them to ripen on the tree, you've waited too long to pick them.

contact your county's extension office to talk to a master gardener about any landscaping or home gardening questions. it's a free service.

They are either short of fertilizer or infected with some kind of insect. Take care of your pear tree accordingly.

Probably from insect damage to young fruit early in development. Could be from an illness or fungus among us. Spray with fruit tree spray as per label directions.

You need to pick them before they ripen, once they're picked...even though they are hard still, they'll soften/ripen indoors...then you can eat em. YUM!

pick them sooner and let them ripe indoors.
