Halloween is alive and well in my neighborhood. my husband and i go all out. we have jack o lanterns, a small graveyard complete with skeleton woman mourner, fog machines. last year my husband built an "electric chair" that i was strapped into. made noise and had a strobe light. i scared the hell out of many folks that night. this year the electric chair comes back and he is building a full size guillotine. kids come from all around our area to see our house. dont let tradition die!!! resurrect the spirit of Halloween!!!

Unfortunately, we have many forms of mass media blaring news of a world that's all scary, all the time, 24 hours a day. There are so many people from so many ideological, religious, and political viewpoints trying to get us scared of other people, our food, etc.
I'm 32 and remember those Halloweens, too...wearing the long skirt from last year's Holly Hobbie costume to be Laura Ingalls...that kind of thing.
I think a few more years of this paranoid, over-commercialized crap will make everyone want our generation to help swing the pendulum back.
LIVING IN FEAR SUCKS!!!

Becuase nowadays you can't actually let your kids eat the candy from the strangers because you might have a neighbor hood sicko who wants to poison your children, not to mention the fact that you can't let your kids go out by themselves because some people might be roaming the streets waiting to kidnap and rape them. BECAUSE THE WORLD SUX NOWADAYS! and you can't trust anyone. But the good thing is that alot of towns have set up areas where the kids can go with their parents and still get candy from the local businesses, and I think they still have fun....OH and as far as the costumes go I think that people are way too busy NOWADAYS to make their children halloween costumes, because it seems like in most families both parents work and sometimes even have to have more than one job a piece just to survive because everything costs more NOW only people aren't getting payed more!!!!! AND YES THAT DOES SUCK THAT HALLOWEEN CAN'T BE THE SAME FOR OUR KIDS AS IT WAS FOR US.

I remember. My mom used to attach a pillow case or a sheet as a cape and use red lipstick to make my brother a vampire. I went one year as a mummy. I was wrapped in ace bandages with tp sticking out. Another year I just wore a nice dress and we made a wand from aluminum foil- I was a fairy. You don't see that anymore these days. Kids are always so bored without their video games, but my brother and I made up games. (hey, I'm not old either. In my 20's) I don't think we should give up our freedoms because of terrorism. Caution is one thing. Fear is another!

Yeah, I think those days are over. Plus, many churches are banning Halloween because of the demonic aspect. It looks like pumpkin patches and fall fests are the wave of the future... sigh.

Child abductions, child molesters, poison in candy.
It's a pagan holiday and is far too commercialized to be fun any longer.
I am so blinking sick and tired of adults begging for candy, it's a disgrace! I have two kinds of trick or treat candy, chocolate for the wee ones and butterstotch disks for the high schoolers and adults (I mean like adults in their 40's and up!)
