1.) Be someone that the homeowner/lessee wants to be around - Be pleasant and outgoing. Accompany them on errands. Before they know it, they won't know how they ever lived life without you.
2.) Make yourself useful - Do chores; buy groceries; cook meals; be pleasant and outgoing.
3.) Don't let them know you plan to stay indefinitely - Set the occurrence of some specific (and attainable) event as the mark of when you'll be moving on and then find ways for that event not to happen through no fault of your own or continuously find some other, more reasonable event at which you should leave instead
4.) Finally, be committed - Don't give up, even in the face of being kicked out. Cry if necessary. Start practicing break-downs now.
***Note: Best applied to Parents, Family, Gullible Friends, Stupid Women, Pathetic Guys, and all of those Too Nice to Say No people that are always being taken advantage of

Read about the Athenian General Alcibiades. He was able to get the most out of his hosts. If you want someone to invite you to stay for a long time, be irresistibly attractive, a brilliant conversationalist, a funny humorist, and just a little bit dangerous.
It is said of Alcibiades that at a dinner, where he was a guest, the host said to him, "What's mine is yours." He replied, "Great, I'll take these gold dishes we've been eating off of." I paraphrase, of course.
