It seems to me that too many nations have influence on the UN that do not care for modern ideas of civilization. It has become corrupted.
It was designed to allow tyrannies to be influenced by free societies in order to reduce warfare and brutality - but has become just the opposite.

The United Nations Organization, to a large degree has been unsuccessful in fulfilling it's mandate - precisely because it has been intentionally undermined, and sabotaged by the US and the rest of the G8 and used to promote the interests of a few rich nations at the expense and detriment of almost all other nations.
It is Ironic that people from the nations which profit most from the establishment and rulings of the UN are the ones who have always had so little respect for the idea of a basic world wide democratic congress.
Strange that people who claim to wish to "bring freedom and democracy" to others would be so loathe to have anyone but themselves actually exercise it.

Not very well. The three aims of the UN are 1) Security, 2) Development and 3) human rights. The world seems absolutely no more secure than it was forty years ago. I believe it is narrow, prejudiced and simplistic to blame the U.N. itself for this situation. The United States is far the most influential creator and proponent of the U.N., and the United States has created a system where the it holds the trump cards and makes the final decisions. Did you know that the budget of the entire United Nations is far under 1% of the budget of the U.S. military alone, $2.5 billion and approx. $400 billion annually, respectively? So, who is really governing the world? The UN or the USA? And are words the final defense of civilization, or weapons?

Perhaps. So long as people are talking they are not fighting. That's the purpose of the General Assembly, which isn't supposed to have power to act.
What is interesting now is that China on the one side or the USA on the other have in each instance (Sudan, etc.) pretty much vetoed the Security Council from doing much of anything since the Balkan crisis.

the european because it stands now must be far diverse from the beliefs of the Schumann Plan of the Fifties which turned right into a set of international locations united in commerce only! What has occurred now can be a set of politicians have were given their heads at the same time and formed a union which may do credit to a student Union ! sure!i will agree that it has formed a procuring and promoting and political block to rival the u . s . a .!yet! At what fee! international places have lost their sovereignty in both regulation and political elements and now we are subservient to a gaggle of bureaucrats. i trust that the european is now too effectual!

This an extremely naive question. For most of us the UN hasn't even opened its doors for business since their building was erected. What have they done for the world? They are a bunch of egotistical ultracrepiderians.

Hahahahah......are you serious? What purpose would that be exactly? They pass resolutions stating certain things and then do NOTHING to back up their words. They are worse crooks than American politicians.
