1. (baseball) The best of seven game series played annually to determine the championship of professional baseball in the United States and Canada, played between the National League and the American League.

ok so whats the National league(is this why its a sopose "world" event)?

National League

1. (baseball) The older of the two professional baseball leagues within Major League Baseball

American League

1. (baseball) The younger of the two professional baseball leagues within Major League Baseball

ok so let me get this straight, these two leagues are in the same league but have different names right? ok thats kool but why is it called world series? because canada plays? then shoudent the stanley cup be called the WORLD stanley cup?

The reason a dictionary can't give you the answer is because
it only tells you meanings of words.
Maybe you should look in the encyclopedia!
Ok, sorry, that was mean, but I don't think there's anything wrong with baseball.
Let them call it what they want.
Why don't you just call it the U.S. - Canadian North American Series
and leave it at that.
Don't sweat the small stuff. : )

Maybe because it was the first professional sport that was broadcast world wide? Or simply just a marketing ploy. Super bowl came from the (at that time) comissioners daughter playing with a super bouncy ball and he came up with super bowl. Stanlry Cup is named after Lord Stanley. I have always liked the plain and simple "Championship" term.

baseball is fine but your question is broken.it is what it is dude don't get your panties in a bunch!that's just what they decided to call it to make it sound important. Besides you have players from all over the world playing now .go back to the hockey section and get that stupid cup out of your mouth.

Baseball was once known as, "A gentlemen's game." I reckon we're running low on gentlemen.

at the time they named it, there was nobody playing organized baseball but the U.S. Thus, baseball only existed in their own little "world".
But we know this isn't factual.

We know islammers call their fanatical zealotry a "religion".
But we know this isn't factual, either.
