In Scotland they do it up..."please for my Halloween"perhaps the times started changing and all the weirdos started putting things in the children's candy and parents became afraid to let their kids go off out there and in the States its not as big as it use to be the costumes have gotten cheaper and kids dont go much further than next door unless their parents drive them to people they kind of know, its the baby boomers that go crazy and buy elaborate things to wear and go party...shame isn't it the way progress has an effect even on kids fun.

Halloween has become a big marketing ploy. Now adults dress up more than kids and those costumes are expensive.
You are lucky you are not pressured to buy a card, decorate, give a gift, or have a party for every stupid holiday that comes around.

Americans have been doing Halloween since it was safe to let your children go door to door accepting candy from strangers and not having to worry about it. Australia started Halloween later, so they have to worry about such things. Fewer and fewer kids go trick-or-treating each year.

We have enough holidays as it is....
It's an American custom really - it's like asking why Americans don't wear poppies and go to dawn services on ANZAC day.
English and Irish celebrate it to some extent, I know that... but the Americans took it to another level. It's their holiday now.
Just because our Prime Minister wants us to be like them, doesn't mean we need to follow suit.
I went trick-or-treating in the US when I was 17 - twice the age (and size) of all the others out and about, but damn if I was going to miss that opportunity!

Alot of us australians just don't like to give in to the americanisation of everything. We also don't like the concept of our kids running getting sugary rubbish from strangers. Not much witch burning happened here - its a bit of a non event.
