I'd rather hear truth that brings a tear, because the smile would be based on something that wasn't true and wouldn't last. At least the truth that brings a tear, you'd know the TRUTH and you could move on and get over the tears, right?

A lie that brings a smile. My EX use to do that all the time and it pissed me off. As for the truth that brings a tear, I make all my friends cry by being too truthful. I am too blunt and have no tact with certain friends.

A lie is worse. A truth that brings a tear can start the healing process. A lie damages you, whoever you're telling it to, and the trust between you.

A truth that brings a tear is up and in your face. You get it and deal with it then and there... then you move on.
A lie may catch up with you, bite you in your behind, smear your reputation, hurt people's trust, destroy your integrity, and so on. It can also be difficult to maintain.
Since I'd rather move on with my life rather than do something I will most likely regret in the future... I'd say a lie is worse.
It's the absolute worst when you lie about something you never needed to lie about and you get caught... because even though you have so little to gain, you can lose so much. Sometimes the risk really isn't worth it.

A lie because when I learn that's what it is,the truth will bring a tear.. I'd respect the person more..Truth hurts,but it's always genuine..
