That is, there are people who may be naturally disposed to lesbianism and others who are naturally inclined to be straight. But can preferences shift, if only ever so slightly? I didn't like coffee the first few times I tried it, but now I like it alot.

maybe I shouldve phrased it "Can lesbianism be an acquired taste"

Forgive me a small snicker.....hee hee hee hee...I don't know about being acquired. I was attracted to my Partner just by seeing her. The fact that she was also a woman was unusual but it was "her" that I loved. I believe that preferences can indeed shift and that they might also shift sexually. It's an interesting theory...although I still don't like coffee much. I much more prefer tea. Blessings.

"and acquired taste?"
I would have to say "no."
It's not a question of taste or preferance, but orientation and attraction.
More closely compared to handedness than preferances for foods.
A right handed person CAN learn to write with their left hand, but it doesn't change what hand they are naturally oriented to use.
The same goes for sexuality, a lesbian can LEARN to sleep with men out of necessity or social stigmas, but it doesn't change the fact that she's still a lesbian.
It just makes her a lesbian living a lie.

Speaking as a 50/50 bi woman, I think any kind of sex requires some acclimating and learning. For some people, preferences can probably shift. This is not to say that I believe a change in preference should be forced, as in ex-gay programs.

I think that people are born with the genes of each sex
some with more fem than mascu
and vice versa
those with a balance are considered straight by sociaty, the others can lean either way some more one way than the other.
but what ever thier taste or the way they act upon them , they were born that way. They can chose how they act on that, but they can not change the thoughts or genes that create thier make up

Why don't you try it a few times and then you can answer your own question.
Using that logic ANYTHING could be an acquired taste because if you do something often enough you'll get used to it.
Doing painful things to oneself is an example that comes to mind.

Is lesbianism an acquired taste?
I am an old guy and have never ever tasted one!
I expect it is an acquired bent or deviation cause by some very extreme experience or experiences.
I have never ever met a les. that i had any problem being friends with or not enjoyed their company.

This sounds like a Garrison Keillor yarn. Young Lutherans find their first coffee bitter and nauseous but it is part of the faith.

Maybe you think you are straight, and then you begin discovering your bi side with no guilt, and no trauma. In this scenario, yes. You can also say you learned to taste pussy, you know? Like a wine taster

yes it's an aquired taste, but you have to be hungry for it before you put your mouth on one. Straight women don't eventaully become Lesbians, that's what bisexuals are for.
