I've managed to, at last, find some true reference to what I have. I fit most of the description except the movie and music favourites which are certainly not for me. My love-shyness keeps me socially lonely, but free from all the ratcrap problems. I've not met a woman who can overcome this barrier for me. And I'm thinking that it's becoming a good thing too...

Lorriehazelwood. I also have a disease called 'decency' actually. Its a problem I refuse to overcome. Would any of the white coat chimps like me to take tablets to solve my other diseases, like 'honesty' or 'kindness'?

love-shyness is not a real mental disorder as defined by the Diagnostics and Statistics Manual IV (the DSM-IV), which is like the bible of psychology.

in fact love-shyness is a mere side-effect of regular shyness; romantic, intimate, and sexual relationships are intrinsically intimidating for people with social anxiety. They fear intimacy and rejection, which are common aspects of romantic relationships.

It is highly unlikely that your "love shyness" is likely to be emotionally healthy for you in the long run. It is a sign of delusions - or at least a sign of denial - when people start believing their pathology is good for them. It is not. Take some zoloft, go see a psychologist, etc. These are more healthy responses to your shyness.

I don't think it's a disease necessarily, although it might be part of a larger problem or illness, and it can be a problem or a boon depending on how you look at it. You're definitely not going to get hurt by any of the (many) unscrupulous game-playing people out there, but equally you'll miss out on that rare chance of finding a worthwhile relationship.
