The phrase is, "Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise". There are times when you can see this in your own life, when knowing something burns you, as in, "we all make mistakes".

In many other instances, knowledge is obviously power. Making everyday choices, for instance, is certainly improved by having appropriate knowledge.

The bliss of ignorance is in not knowing what you don't know. Until circumstances require knowledge, ignorance is quite a nice experience. Knowledge is power in the presence of ignorance. However, when everyone is in the know, your privilege is limited.
The ideal might be for everyone to have perfect understanding of every circumstance, and so no conflict, because everyone knows the answers to get from where you are to where you want to be, unless the goals are at odds between different individuals in the know. This is the case within our government, and the populace they serve do not understand the issues, so the politicians use their knowledge to take advantage of the ignorance of their constituency. This is why voters seek moral leaders. People with a reputation for serving based on personal responsibility to a greater judge than the voter. People who act according to a standard of behavior that has been long established and evidence of character can be examined by the common standard that everyone can understand.

Knowledge has power only through the mind.
Knowledge is always limited, hence you can always add to it. The power is what?
To win an argument?
To out smart another? Build a bridge?
Knowledge without self knowing is very dangerous and result in a world like this.
Knowledge occupies our minds endlessly therefore ignorance being in this sense a lack of knowledge may be bliss full in that it frees the mind from the bondage of knowing when we really don't.

Power is usually associated with corruption
If knowledge is power, then knowledge is corruption.

Ignorance is bliss because those who are ignorant have no power and therefore are not subject to the evils of corruption.

people with knowledge aren't always happy. think about it, are you happier thinking your parents are still alive, or knowing they just got in an accident? isn't that ignorance more blissful then the knowledge of the fact? "knowledge is power" and "ignorance is bliss" don't contradict each other.

Power can't be equated with happiness. With power comes stress & responsiblity. Ignorance is bliss because when you don't know any better, there's nothing to worry about. You can exist in a childlike innocent state. Once you know the truth (and some truths can be very ugly) you can be tormented by it...

If knowledge is power, how can ignorance be bliss?

Power is not equal to bliss.

Good question, but maybe there's a big difference between power and bliss.

Because you are lacking the knowledge necessary to realize you have no power....or basically to know how messed up things are. Therefore regardless of the situation you are happy.

I have been trying to obtain ignorance for a while...I just can't seem to get it...sigh.
