Unfortunately, I have. I stayed in a miserable relationship for months because I was afraid to be alone, which I now realize had a horrible effect on my self-esteem. I only left when he started getting abusive - the last time we were together he called me a f*cking whore and threatened to push me out of his car. After that I told him I never wanted to see him again and it was a huge weight off my shoulders.

At some point in the process you come to the realization that the situation is having a detrimental effect on your well being. It then becomes a matter of survival. You either choose to survive and leave accepting the repercussions or you stay and die a long and painful death.

Yeah, I'm kinda trapped in one right now with a friend. We're just friends, but let's just say that promises made aren't being kept, and she's really taking advantage of my kindness. I'm keeping my mouth shut and being as tolerant as I can. I'm obligated to see this through for a while longer, but I need to be rescued. Anyone?

Yes I have, I stayed for a combination of factors, I stayed because I was the only steady male figure in her childrens life, And I wtill had hope that thinkgs could work out... But 3 years later it was even worse, so I told the kids what was up... Now they like me even more, cause when she starts a fight I just leave... and now with MY child I am glad we are split. but I would like to be together so I could see my boy more

Never trapped just complacent. That's why I came onto Yahoo Answers because I needed to change something in my life. And I was the only one who can do that for me most of the time. I am surrounded by IDIOTS!

No, but I was trapped in a different way. I lived w/my boyfriend and he hit me and treated me cruelly. I stayed w/him because he told me he'd kill himself if I left. Turns out all abusers say that. I left him though.
