I don't know if people need me because I don't know if they are enought ripe to accept their sins, their mind's dungeons. I describe those dungeons and sins in my paintings. Some days ago, a friend asked me for a painting "Is this a map?". Of course my paintings are a kind of map which shows the road to Hell...
So, I don't know!

In my particular genre of artistry, which numbers two, I would have to say yes.
On one hand, I have been a life-long musician as a drummer/percussionist and at a pro level since 1968. (Yeah. Dated myself there, hunh?) People need music. People need to dance, either for pleasure, expression or release. In that regard, as an artist I feel I am needed, along with the rest of the musicians I may be on stage with. Drums are a physical instrument and playing them is something I need as well.
On the other hand, I have been a pro audio engineer for the last ten years, running FOH and stage monitor mixes, either as a hired gun or with my own sound reinforcement company, Pegasus Pro Sound Services (Oops! Did that violate community guidelines?)
Here again, people need the music, the show, the entertainment and quality sound, and it certainly qualifies as an art form, at least, that is how I see it and how I approach it. It is very gratifying when a show has concluded with a happy promoter, happy performers and, above all, a happy audience. So I again feel as if my artistry is needed, as well as appreciated, almost immediately. When running live sound you are very much in the here and now. There is no "do it again". And that's pretty cool.................

In a sense yes, and in a sense no. I feel that ART is needed by people, but I also feel that most people don't THINK they need it. The problem for the artist, then, is to communicate to people in such a way that they realise their need.
Some artists don't think they need to communicate; they just do their own thing. Sometimes they make amazing things that nobody will ever see. I disagree with them. I think an artist should try to communicate, either their feelings, or their message, or their creativity, in an excellent way, to as many people as possible.
In this I agree with Tolstoy, in his essay, "What is Art?"

Artists are those who use science for the heart of man and the scientists are those who use science for the mind of man!
The artistic values of a man guides him through his exposure in science and lead him to the right path.
Great people are either artists are admirers of arts.
The fight between heart and mind is the fight between good and bad. When heart wins, man is looked as good man and when mind wins then he is looked as bad man!

Yes. Language only communicates Nuances of emotion. But when you produce a piece of art and someone out there in the world "totally gets it"- well it is confirmation that we are seperate but not alone in our perceptions.
That is an asset to the human race and therefore translates as a need.

Yes. The world may not always appreciate artists as they should, but without us it would be a very bleak, soulless world!

Yeah, because you show people what they can't see and or what they'er missing in life, pictures that you create from the heart can touch another person, and even when you don't know it.
