Jericho--Any theories on Hawkins?

Question

I can't decide if I think he's good or bad. He knows a little too much to be completely innocent, but he's being too nice to be completely bad. Anyone have a theory on him?

He's obviously a spook! And by that I do not mean anything racial. He's obviously some sort of intelligence officer, or recently one anyway.

Did you notice on this last "Fallout" episode, that:

We know the cities of Denver, Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia and San Diego were hit, as well as at least 3 other locations attacked, because Hawkins pulled 3 additional pins out of the drawer before the episode faded off

And, that after shooting the escaped prisoners, when Emily and Jake and the other girl ran into the storm cellar, they left the 2 deputies, one of which we know is alive, in the trunk to die in the fallout?

Also, Jake sure seems to have an interesting past in those last 5 years he was away. Somehow, he's picked up the knowledge of demolitions. He's also taking charge of a lot of things. Odd for a "bum" character, unless maybe he was in the intelligence service too. No reason he would hide ordinary military service from his family, as they would be proud of that.

I have no clue on whether he is sinister. Definitely an interesting "mystery" within the program. I'm thinking he might be a survivalist of a sort. The preview for Jericho 4 indicates he may be preparing for what's coming (from Denver).

I kind of feel like he's not telling the whole truth when he says he was a cop in St. Louis. Also, if you watch carefully, the scene when he's copying the names off the radio, you can make out a few... the last on he writes is Washington.

do you mean the black guy? i am not sure of the character's names yet.i think he is just too smart to have been a cop.i think maybe he was something like a nuclear scientist or maybe some kind of high government job. i think his family is in the witness protection program.
