No. I speak English and Spanish, I had a co-worker who didn't speak English well so we spoke Spanish at work when we were together. Some co-workers would accuse us of talking about them, but I made it known that if I had anything to say to them I would say it in the language they understood, and trust me I would/did. Sometimes it's an advantage, especially if there's a crowd and we were talking about something personal. I know it kind of sucks, because I have known people to abuse this, and that just means they don't have the balls to say how they feel toward you in a language that you understand.

If the conversation is about work then English should be the spoken language. However, if the subject is about anything else then, discuss it on break or after work hours. Avoid adding additional stress to the office. ESL should practice speaking English so that they don’t have to use a translator. (English as a Second Language) and then...they too can start using bad grammer!

No ! Yoou shouldn't have a problem with it just as long as the person gets her job done. If you want to be nosey and find out what they are talking about, buy a book and learn there language. Alot of them can't understand our language. So give them a brake. The other person is glad that someone speeks there language. It probley makes them feel comfortable.

No you can speak in whatever language you want. The only rule against it would be a company policy, nothing to do with the government though.

I don't think there's a "rule" about it, other than common courtesy. Speaking in a language others can't understand is as rude as whispering. They're clearly doing it to talk about people behind their backs.

I don't think there are any state or federal rules against this, but most work place have a policy of English only, especially in area where patient's and customers are present.

No in most cases I believe your employer can only dictate against speaking a foreign language in public places to customers, and probably little else.

There is no rule against it. But it is bad manners. Especially if they are doing it all the time, to keep other employees from joining the conversation.
