Error 678 is a message from windows informing you that the connection attempt failed. The connectivity issue may be caused by a hardware or software misconfiguration in your computer or by line related issue such as static , excess humidity, etc.

Make sure that your NIC is enabled or properly configured . If you're using ethernet cable , switched both ends of the cable . If problem persists , call your ISP coz there might be a network issue

Error 678 is a complicated dsl error to deal with. It could be caused by a pc problem, an ISP network outage, a dsl line/signal issues, or the presence of a 3rd party router. So first thing to do is to powercyle your devices, bypass the router, & create a broadband connection. If problems would persist, you need to call your ISP for updates about a network outage or a dsl signal problem
