I think since there are billions of men out there, the answer to your question might vary a bit. Really the only thing that matters is what you and your husband feel.
I was glad to have the opportunity to be a mom to both genders, and I was glad to give my husband a son. He sure was happy when he saw the male parts on the ultrasound and faxed it to all his friends and family. And seeing them together is wonderful. But I don't think he would have felt inadequate without our son either.
If you are interested in having another child, you should have one but don't have another one just to get a boy, especially if you're only doing it for your husband.

I probably wouldnt say "inadequate". I know my husband does want a boy though. I am currently 8 months pregnant with our first child - a girl. I know he was a little "disappointed" at first... but he is very happy even though she isn't a boy. I personally do not want anymore children after she is born...... but I still have many child bearing years (who says that anymore? lol) and he always mentions how we will one day have a son... which kind of makes me like ehhhh because he is very hyper and acts like a child when he is with young boys. It might be fun for the boys... but for me, its like "put him down! watch out for the fan! watch his head!" LOL. He's quite a rough player when it comes to small boys. But, he doesn't love his daughter any less than he would have if she was a boy.

I think it just depends on the guy. My cousin who is a guy really wanted a girl for their first child and they got one. They have since had 2 boys, but he wanted his girl first.
Just because a guy has a son does not mean the name will carry on, what if the son has no children or just girls. Heck what if the son dies before he has the chance to have kids.

My father said he became a feminist the day I was born (he was 19, it was 1961) and he said he never missed having boys, ever; after my sister came, he thought we gals were the greatest.

well, you can not know what "men" would want or do, since there is an entire race of us, but men like woman in the same class as themselves, unless they can not have children themselves.
