Very gently!... No just list what you have done for the company that value adds. If you are able quantify this into dollar amounts so it is visible, if he has a brain (BOSS) he will give you the pay rise immediatley, if he doesnt leave for greener pastures...

Tell him of the (good) things you've been doing these last few months. Tell him where your talents lie. Ask for promotion in that direction, and if there's no vacancy, tell him you think you deserve a raise. If he doesn't think so start looking for something different, but don't tell him ...yet.

Don't ask, I mean don't ask in a way he could say no easily. Talk about your work, where you have succeeded, what advantages you have brought to the company,etc. Tell him you why you feel you should be rewarded with a raise.
