the printer usually "tells" you by blinking a light...each problem has a set number of blinks...to identify the problem, you need the printer's manual (or in many cases, the service manual) and only there you'll find out the problem...

if you don't have the manual, you may want to let us know which printer you have (brand/model)

First you need to do a test print and look at it- tell us what happens! If its a screwed up image- check the drivers, if its a defect, look for repeating interval- it will determine which rollers are the issue. If its a line or streak - its imager related. If its not getting that far- look for blinking lights or display of an error code (lasers typically).

go to my computer...click devices....l0ok for the printer then right click and click properties...it should tell you their
